【Winter Study Abroad Information】Rikkyo University Short-Term Intensive Japanese Program Winter 2027

Rikkyo University (Tokyo, Japan), one of our partner institutions under a signed MoU, will offer the “Short-Term Intensive Japanese Program Winter 2027” this coming summer. The program will run from January 25 to February 4, 2027.

The entire program consists of about 46 hours of Japanese language classes including cultural activities. Additionally, some optional social events will be held. There will be ample opportunity to interact with Rikkyo local students. This program is especially suitable for the introductory level learners who have no or little experience learning Japanese or students who have learned Japanese for approximately one year and are at JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) N4 / N5 level. In the program, “Beginner” and “Elementary” level classes will be held. English is the primary language for communication. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion and an Official Transcript. Please refer to the attachments for more details.

Rikkyo University will waive the tuition fee (JPY 120,000) for one student nominated by the College. All other expenses must be borne by the participant. Students interested in applying for the nomination should submit the required preliminary application documents (in PDF format) to <z11408058@ncku.edu.tw> by 5:00 PM on Friday, August 7. The student selected for nomination will then be required to prepare the official application materials for Rikkyo University.

 

Program capacity: 30 students (Final admission will be notified by Rikkyo)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student of the College of Liberal Arts at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU).
  • Beginner level in Japanese (no prior learning experience required) or elementary level (approximately one year of Japanese study or JLPT N5–N4 level).
  • Must be able to communicate in English.
  • Open to undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students.
  • Must be in good physical and mental health, with satisfactory academic performance and conduct.

  • Tuition fee: JPY 120,000 (One selected student will be granted a tuition waiver, to be announced after internal review)
  • Accommodation fee: JPY 154,000
  • Activity fee: JPY 9,000
  • Administrative fee: JPY 37,000

Important Information for Applicants:

  1. Rikkyo University will arrange overseas travel insurance for all participants. The coverage is as follows:
    • Injury & Sickness that results in death: JPY 3,000,000
    • Injury that results in physical impediment: JPY 3,000,000
    • Rescuer’s expenses, which includes treatment for disease and accidental injury: JPY 10,000,000
    • Personal liability insurance compensation authorized, which includes incidental settlement negotiation services: JPY 100,000,000

However, it is each participant’s own responsibility to arrange their own insurance policy to cover all necessary costs as our insurance does not cover chronic disease. There will be no classes on Saturdays and Sundays.

  1. Participants need to arrive and check in at the designated hotel on Sunday, January 24, and check out on Friday, February 4, 2027. Participants will stay in a single room at the designated hotel near Ikebukuro campus. Participants are only allowed to stay outside of the designated hotel overnight on Friday night and Saturday night.
  2. In this program, English is the primary language for communication. Participants are expected to have a certain level of English ability.
  3. Participants are responsible to arrange an appropriate visa to enter Japan for the purposes of the program. Rikkyo University will prepare and send them the documents necessary for the visa application, which are Letter of Reason for Invitation, Letter of Guarantee and Travel Itinerary, once they are admitted to the program and the payment is confirmed.   4. Upon returning, participants will be asked to produce a 3–5 minute video reflecting on the program. The video should include both Chinese and English subtitles and will be published on the College of Liberal Arts website. To encourage participation, a subsidy will be provided for the video's production. (The exact amount may be adjusted depending on the available budget for the year)
