Basis: The Guidelines for the Liang-Hsin Taiwan Cultural Academic Research Grants of the College of Liberal Arts, National Cheng Kung University.

Purpose:
The family of Ms. Huang Liang-Pi, an alumna of the Department of Chinese Literature of the College of Liberal Arts, National Cheng Kung University (hereinafter referred to as “the College”), established the “Liang-Hsin Taiwan Cultural Academic Research Grant of the College of Liberal Arts, National Cheng Kung University” in memory of Ms. Huang Liang-Pi’s dedication to academic education and enthusiasm for cultural and public welfare. The grant is intended to encourage faculty members and students of the College to conduct academic research related to Taiwan culture.

Scope of Grants:
Academic research focusing on Taiwan culture. Research projects, publications, and translations related to Taiwan literature, history, language, arts, drama, and other relevant fields are eligible for support. (Translation refers to research-oriented translations of classic works in Chinese or foreign languages, which must include annotations, textual research, comparative analysis, and other relevant scholarly content.)

Eligibility:
(1) Faculty members of the College: Those conducting domestic or international field research, overseas specialized research, or academic paper presentations/publications.
(2) Graduate students in the College’s doctoral and master’s programs: Currently enrolled graduate students recommended by their academic advisors.
Currently enrolled graduate students with special-status backgrounds (such as Indigenous students or students from disadvantaged families) may be given priority consideration.
Research projects proposed by faculty members or research papers by doctoral or master’s students that have already received awards or subsidies from other institutions or programs may not be submitted for duplicate funding.

Number and Amount of Grants:
(1) Faculty members of the College: 1 recipient per year, with a grant of NT$80,000.
(2) Doctoral students of the College: 2 recipients per year, with NT$60,000 awarded to each recipient.
(3) Master’s students of the College: 3 recipients per year, with NT$40,000 awarded to each recipient.
If there are not enough applications meeting the grant criteria in a given year, some positions may remain unfilled.
Any taxes legally payable on the grant shall be borne by the recipient.

Application Documents:
(1) Faculty members of the College must submit:

1. Application form and consent form for the collection of personal data (please download them from the College of Liberal Arts website of National Cheng Kung University).
2. A proposal for domestic or international field research or overseas specialized research, or a preliminary manuscript for academic publication, together with proof of acceptance or approval.

(2) Doctoral and master’s students of the College must submit:

1. Application form and consent form for the collection of personal data (please download them from the College of Liberal Arts website of National Cheng Kung University).
2. Research proposal:
   (1) In principle, the research project should cover a one-year period, from July 1 of the current year to June 30 of the following year.
   (2) The proposal must include an abstract, the main body of the research plan, or a description of the contents of the proposed work. For translation projects, applicants must provide an introduction to the work to be translated and select one chapter for a sample translation, including the required scholarly format, such as annotations, together with the original text of that chapter.
   (3) The research proposal, including the cover page, may not exceed 20 pages.
3. A recommendation letter from the academic advisor.
4. Certificate of enrollment (please apply through the Office of Academic Affairs).
5. Supporting documents for special status (such as Indigenous status or disadvantaged family background), if applicable. These documents may be omitted if not applicable.

Application Period and Submission Method:
(1) Application period: From the date of this announcement until Friday, April 30, 2021. Late applications will not be accepted.
(2) Submission method:

1. Complete and personally sign the paper application form, then submit it together with the research proposal and relevant documents to the Office of the College of Liberal Arts, National Cheng Kung University (7th Floor, Xiu-Qi Building).
2. Electronic copies of all documents must also be sent to the College of Liberal Arts email address: z10111025@email.ncku.edu.tw.
3. Both the paper and electronic versions of the application form and all required documents are mandatory. VIII. Review and Disbursement of Grants:
   (1) The list of successful grant recipients will be announced on the College’s website by the end of June. No individual notification will be provided.
   (2) For approved applications, the first installment will be disbursed based on July as the starting point. An interim progress report must be submitted by the end of December 2021, and a final project report must be submitted by the end of June 2022.
   (3) The grant will be disbursed in installments:
4. First installment: 40% of the total grant will be disbursed after the research proposal has been approved.
5. Second installment: 40% of the total grant will be disbursed after the interim progress report has been submitted and approved.
6. Third installment: 20% of the total grant will be disbursed after the final project report has been submitted and approved.

Other Matters:
(1) If an investigation confirms that a recipient’s submitted research involves violations of academic ethics, duplicate applications for grants or subsidies, or other similar circumstances, the grant received must be returned.
(2) Application materials will not be returned. Paper documents will be retained for three years and then destroyed in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act.
